Mold removal from buildings is important because excessive amounts of mold and certain types of mold may present health concerns. While we do not run around instilling fear in our customers over possible ill-effects of mold on you or others, neither do we gloss over the impact mold can have on your lives and property. We feel our responsibility is to educate, so you as the consumer can make an informed decision.

For this reason, we advise our customers to address any existence of mold with professionals who can test and conduct mold removal and mold remediation as needed.

Signs of the Presence of Excessive Mold Include:

• The presence of visible mold
• Strong, musty odors.
• Any evidence of past moisture problems that might have caused undetected mold growth
• Excessive humidity

What to Do and What Not to Do About Mold Removal

• Don’t use bleach for mold removal. Doing so may put you or others at much higher risk of spreading the problem to other areas of the building through a process called ‘sporilation’. While bleach is an oxidizing agent and may reduce the appearance of mold residue, it is not solving the problem that caused the issue in the first place. That must be corrected first and to do so you have to identify the root cause.
• Do as much research as you can, because not everyone is affected the same way. Those who have or are predisposed to allergies are at higher risk of adverse reaction than those without. Be especially careful with infants and toddlers whose developing lungs in the first five years of life put them at risk.
• Don’t believe promises of long term Warranties or Guarantees without knowing fully what they say. You may actually only be getting a promise of a paint’s performance when it should be an assurance of a clean mold environment.
• Do call a professional for advice on who to call in for testing and sampling, but…
• Don’t work with companies that do “their own” research or “clearance” testing. Work with an independent inspector who has no bias in the outcome. This offers your best protection.
• Do thoroughly vet any companies you’re talking to about your project. In some situations an indoor air quality professional will be required to create a restoration plan for your home.
